In Retrospect

As I walk down a crowded street
Staring at all the people I meet
I see someone that I once knew
Now coming directly into my view
I speak to her so my voice will be heard
Though she passes by me not saying a word
I look back but in an instant she's gone
I then wait until evening when I return home
To make an inquiry about my estranged friend
By calling on one of her beloved kin
I am told that she is with us no more
Having just died only the day before
